5 Quick & Easy Breakfast Recipies

Giving your preschooler breakfast, even if it is something small, is a great way to start her day. With many choices before you, what you choose to feed your child is important.  A healthy diet will have a good balance of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats.

Consider the following:

  • Students who eat a low-glycemic breakfast fare better with memory and attention (study)
  • Iron rich foods improve mental alertness and energy levels (study)

Avoid these foods:

  • Foods with artificial sweetners or coloring
  • High-fructose corn syrup
  • Sugary fruit drinks, colas and juices
  • Refined white sugars and breads
  • Transfats and partially-hydrogenated oils

Try these suggestions

Breakfast #1

Banana-Berry Smoothie (serves 2)

  • 1 medium banana
  • 1 cup frozen mixed berries
  • 1 tbsp natural peanut butter (if desired)
  • 1-2 tbsp ground flaxseed (if desired)
  • 1/3 cup of 1% or 2% milk
  • 1 cup plain or vanilla yogurt
  • 2-4 cubes ice


Directions: Put all ingredients in a blender; blend until smooth.

Breakfast #2

Blueberry Banana Overnight Oats

  • ½ cup old fashioned oats
  • ½ cup low-fat milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup(s) blueberries
  • 1/3 cup banana, sliced
  • 1 teaspoon chia seeds, optional


Directions: Place oats in container of choice and pour in milk and vanilla. Stir.  Add a layer of blueberries, bananas slices, and top with chia seeds, if desired. Cover and place in fridge. Enjoy in the morning with a small cup of OJ!

Breakfast #3

  • Milk
  • Whole wheat English muffin with peanut butter and banana slices
  • Tangerine slices


Egg Sandwhich

Egg Sandwhich

  • 1 whole wheat English muffin, toasted
  • Hard boiled egg, sliced (or fried egg)
  • Slice of Cheese
  • Thin slice of ham or cooked bacon*
  • Milk
  • Apple Slices

Breakfast #5

Mexican Tortilla Roll Up

  • Whole wheat or low-carb tortilla
  • Egg
  • Salsa
  • Shredded Cheese

Directions: Scramble the egg and put on tortilla shell. Spoon a little salsa on the egg. Sprinkle with cheese. Roll up and serve.

Serve with milk and sausage link or bacon
